Joan would not be able to achieve her vision without the help of her sponsors. Together they have been able to tell powerful stories about female leadership, sporting determination, a passion for our seas and a sustainable future. Here are the stories behind a number of Joan’s sponsors, past and present.
Helly Hansen provides Joan with waterproof gear that she can trust for performance and protection in even the harshest of conditions. Joan considers herself truly lucky to work with a brand that understands what matters most when stakes are high, which allows her to follow her passion with complete focus and determination.
Joan is incredibly proud to have Dubarry of Ireland as her official sailing footwear partner, keeping her feet dry and delivering the highest performance in the toughest conditions. She loves to promote high quality Irish design, and to fly the flag for an iconic Irish brand as she performs at the highest level of the sport.
In 2018, Joan was chosen as brand ambassador for the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) ‘Taste the Atlantic – a Seafood Journey’ trail, educating people as to how Irish seafood is caught and farmed sustainably along the Wild Atlantic Way. With her early years spent working on her father’s mussel farm in Clew Bay, her knowledge of the seafood sector, and her clear passion for the sea, Joan’s sailing initiative was a great fit for BIM and Irish seafood.
The Business Post is an Irish and global news service, with award winning comment and analysis. As the home of quality independent journalism, the brand identified with Joan as a strong representation of Irish ambition and home-grown talent. “We are so proud to be able to help Joan continue on her path to global success,” said Enda O'Coineen, The Business Post. “Her courage, grit and pioneering spirit represent the best of Ireland.”
“I would not be able to realise my sporting dreams were it not for local sponsors like Multi Colour Corporation,” says Mulloy. “While I’ve spent my life defying labels, if I ever need some printed I can count on MCC.”
Fighting climate change and caring for the environment is very important to Joan, and she is very happy to work with a brand with such strong environmental values. In a world where our oceans are filling with plastic, Moken is a dynamic and exciting company trying to limit its impact with 100% biodegradable products.
The Atlantic Youth Trust is a youth development and cultural integration charity. Joan is a proud ambassador of this charity that seeks to connect young people with the ocean and adventure.
Celebrating female leadership through rebellious spirit, this brand honours the legend of Grace O’Malley - or Granuaile - regarded as one of the world’s most inspirational and extraordinary female trailblazers. The Irish Pirate Queen is a formidable ancestor of Joan Mulloy, creating a perfect brand association based on Joan’s connection to the woman herself, and her dedication to life at sea as a professional solo sailor.
