Mayo native Joan Mulloy is one of Ireland’s most inspiring young sailors, representing her country on the global racing stage. Since learning to sail on the West coast she has followed a determined path to global success, representing Irish ambition and homegrown talent in the high-octane world of offshore racing. In 2018, Joan became the first Irish woman to represent her country at the high-profile international Solitaire Le Figaro race. Her ultimate ambition is to be the first Irish person to complete the Vendée Globe, a solo round-the-world race known as “The Everest of the Seas”.
Just seven women have competed in the Vendée Globe since the race began in 1989. Joan was inspired to succeed as a professional solo sailor by Ellen MacArthur, who held the record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the world. In putting Ireland on the global sailing map, Joan represents world-class sporting achievement, and the empowerment of women as leaders in any field.
Joan’s determination to reach her Vendée Globe goal is a natural sponsorship fit for progressive companies promoting Ireland, and Irish business. Her campaign will culminate in the realisation of a personal dream, placing Ireland centre-stage in the global sporting arena with courage, grit, ingenuity and a pioneering spirit.
